Rudy Mendoza Martinez

Rudy Martinez, of Mason, passed away on Wednesday, February 11, 2009, at the age of 45 after a 15 year battle with cancer.

Rudy was born in Mason on December 9, 1963, to Casimiro and Consuelo Martinez, the second of four children and the only son. He graduated from Mason High School with the class of 1983 and was a lifelong Mason Puncher fan. He was such a dedicated fan that he attended all of the Puncher football playoff games this past year, even though he was quite ill and in a wheelchair.

He worked at Grosse Lumber Yard and for the Brady school system for a number of years before becoming disabled. Rudy loved to hunt and fish and enjoyed spending time with his three children.

Rudy is survived by his children: Alejandro Jesus Martinez, Rudy Mendoza Martinez, Jr. and Maria Asidalia Martinez, all of Mason; his parents: Casimiro and Consuelo Martinez of Mason; and three sisters: Rose Rodriguez and husband Santiago, Rebecca Martinez and Romelia Castillo and husband Edward, all of Mason. He is also survived by 8 nieces and nephews: Santiago Rodriguez III and wife Fran, Stephanie Rodriguez, Cayla Rodriguez, Josh Berreles, Vincent Martinez (currently serving with the US Marine Corps in Iraq), Miranda Berreles, Casandra Castillo, and Cathleen Castillo, all of Mason, as well as three great-nieces and nephews: Nicolas Rodriguez, Nathan Rodriguez and Natalie Rodriguez and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral mass for Rudy Martinez was held on Saturday, February 14, 2009 at at St Joseph Catholic Church in Mason. Israel (Ray) Duarte, Ismael (Jr.) Duarte, Samuel P. Martinez, Jr., Elias Martinez, Jr., Emmitt Martinez, Pedro Martinez, Juan Martinez, Daniel Torres, and Joseph Lopez served as pallbearers.

Visitation with the family was on Friday, February 13, at Mason Funeral Home with the Rosary at 7:00 p.m.
