The Mason Lions Club met Tuesday, February 17th, for its regular weekly luncheon meeting. There were 31 members and 2 visitors in attendance.
Lion Rich Shoemaker was responsible for the program and introduced Sheryl Burleson who spoke about a proposal to build a covered pavilion at the Elementary School for the lower grades to use for their P.E. & Recess time. Currently, these students use the Jr. High Gym, and must use it the first period of the day because it is used by the Jr. High students the rest of the day. Since the early morning is the prime learning and teaching time of the day, these students are missing out on some valuable time. Sheryl, along with a group of concerned parents and teachers are trying to raise enough money to construct a covered pavilion with a concrete slab floor, that at a later date could be enclosed and used for an Elementary Gym. The Lions Club will have a Hamburger Lunch later in the Spring. All proceeds from this function will go towards helping get this pavilion constructed.
The club's next meeting will be held Tuesday, February 24th, at noon at Zavala's. The program chairman will be Bruce Lehmberg.
The Mason Lions Club has an ongoing program to recycle used eyeglasses to people who need them. Used eyeglasses may be given to any Lion or left in collection boxes at any of the local banks. Also, please contact any Mason Lion if you know of anyone in our community unable to afford appropriate eye care.
