The 8th Grade Boys Basketball team finished out their season this past Monday when they traveled to Miles for a 6:30 tip-off.
The Punchers fell behind early in the first period, down 2-7, but battled back before the half with Miles leading 10-17. In period three, Mason tacked on eight more points to the Bulldogs eleven. In the final period the Punchers poured in nine points to the host’s five but it was too little too late.
In spite of the lost these guys did a really good job against the District’s number one team. This game was a typical example of the way our guys take on a challenge. I’m sure they glance at the score from time to time, but their real focus is on giving their best effort every moment they are on the court. At the beginning of the year they resolved to get more serious about their competition level and improve their skills, and improve they did.
Last year these Punchers only managed one win compared to this year’s 7-8 record. They finished third in the District Tournament, and tied for third place in District, beat teams that had previously beaten them earlier in the season, lost three District games by five points or less including a two point loss in over-time. They overcame two important losses to the team when starters Tanner Dutton and Dale Cunningham moved from Mason.
They have been a fun crew to coach because they work hard, don’t make excuses, and have been a good example to everyone around them.
On behalf of the team, we would like to thank everyone that helped us during this season. ”Thanks”, go out to those faithful parents that encouraged these athletes, Mason’s High School coaches and teachers that kept books , clock and gates, as well as all our maintenance staff and those in charge of travel. Appreciation goes out to the Mason’s newspaper for their support and coverage as well.
Keep a close eye on these athletes, more good things are in their future.
