Mason I.S.D. Board Meeting Action

The board of trustees of Mason I.S.D. held their regular meeting for February on Wednesday, February 25. The following agenda items were covered during that meeting.

Mason ISD Daycare - Brooke Rosberg and Amy Brooks presented a needs assessment for a school sponsored daycare. Information from their recent visit to Lago Vista ISD was shared. Staff parent needs, student parent needs and community needs as well as financial issues regarding the program were discussed.

Construction Report - A final construction report was given regarding the Art and Science Lab project. The project’s final cost came under budget approximately $60,000.

School Board Election- The board of trustees called for the upcoming May 9th board election, appointed election judges and entered into a joint election agreement with the City of Mason. As of the date of the Board meeting, Shannon Worrell and Tommy Bierschwale have completed the required paperwork to seek a place on the Mason ISD Board of Trustees.

Public Comment: Wade Powell expressed some concerns regarding the Athletic Department and Melody Trip addressed the board praising the athletic department and also the need for a dressing facility at the “Puncherdome.”

Superintendent's Report:

A. The recent tax values of Mason ISD were presented with concerns regarding land values expressed.

B. Options for student insurance were discussed.

C. An estimate from Glen Rueffer regarding the field house project was presented. (total cost $183,000)

D. Transportation issues were discussed.

E. Calendar options presented by the administration and the DEIC were discussed with a survey of all staff to follow.

F. The difference in revenue regarding the beginning of the year budgeted amount and the current amount reflected the increase in student enrollment was presented.

G. VOIP – Voice Over Internet Protocol was discussed. The system being considered would replace existing phones and cost approximately $84,000.

The board entered into closed session to address some personnel concerns.

Administration Contracts – One year extensions were granted to Principals, Assistant Principal, Athletic Director and Special Education Director by a 7-0 vote.
