AROUND THE SQUARE
Wednesday, March 18, 2009 • Posted March 18, 2009

M is for March.

A month marching right along.

M is for M2 Gallery.

A new art gallery on the square.

M is for muddy roads.

Meaning it rained.

Yippee-ai-ay.

M is for mockingbird.

Have you heard?

M is for Mason.

M is the thirteenth letter of the English alphabet.

From the Greek mu.

Derived ultimately from the Phoenician.

So says trusty Webster.

A capital M is a Roman numeral.

Stands for 1,000.

Place a bar over that and you get 1,000,000.

M is a mighty letter.

Its very shape implies size.

And structure.

A balanced base.

With symmetrical height.

Good things begin with M.

Mother.

Mama.

Memaw.

Manna.

Milk.

Money.

Maybe a margarita.

Or a martini.

Meatloaf.

Macaroni and cheese.

Marzipan.

Melons.

Mist.

Mystical.

Meditation.

M means music.

Marriage.

Moon (and moonlight).

Mystery.

Majesty.

M makes me muse.

From monumental to molecule.

A minute.

A moment.

A million magical microscopic metaphysical meteors of mercy metaphorically metamorphosing into our collective memory.

And all mankind melds.

A miracle in the making.

Marvelous.

That’s Mason.

Renee Walker is an author, poet, and real estate broker on the square.
