Mason’s New Girls Sport - High School Softball
Wednesday, March 18, 2009 • Posted March 18, 2009

Mason has been working toward a new softball program for girls for some time. The community showed great interest and support in promoting girls softball by installing a new girls softball field at the baseball complex at Fort Mason City Park.

The youth girl’s softball program has had good participation in the past and fielded competitive teams.

Now, Mason I.S.D. will be adding softball to their High School Sports Program this spring and a new coach will be named for the program at that time.

Other high schools in the area have had established softball programs for years and concerns have been raised about Mason girls having equal footing with other teams.

A long time girls softball pitching instructor from Llano, Rex Wootan, has now stepped forward to offer training to Mason girls who are interested in the most important position on the field, the pitcher spot.

The pitcher performs almost 85% of the work on the defensive side of play. Without a good pitcher and competent back up pitchers a team cannot hope to compete.

Fast-pitching softball is a very precise and rigorous task. If improperly performed, it can cause serious injury.

Mr. Wootan has made his services available to Mason girls.

He will be available in Mason to instruct the correct and safe way to pitch.

He is offering a FREE 2 hour pitching clinic. Parents interested in learning more can call 325-247-5331 or email at
