Jeronimo "Jerry" Valdez

Jeronimo “Jerry” Valdez, of Mason, passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2009, at the age of 79.

He was born on July 20, 1929, in Brady, Texas, to Mr. and Mrs. Cruz Valdez. He married Simona Avalos on June 15, 1957, in Brady and they lived in Brady and Fredericksburg before settling in Mason.

Jerry worked at the ice cream plant in Fredericksburg for eight years and then worked at the Dr. Pepper Bottling Plant in Mason for 40 years. He was an excellent mechanic and handyman and enjoyed working on cars and doing projects around the house.

Survivors include his wife, Simona Avalos Valdez, of Mason and his sister, Esperanza of Artesia, California.

Funeral services for Jerry Valdez were held Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. at Mason Funeral Home with Pastor David Collett officiating. Interment followed at Crosby Cemetery. Fred Estes, Andy Martinez, Artemio Segura, Alejandro Vega, Ignacio Solis, Lorenzo Martinez and Abel Martinez served as pallbearers.

Visitation with the family was held Monday, April 6, 2009, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Mason Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Mason Funeral Home.
