Head Start Begins Garden Project
Wednesday, April 29, 2009 • Posted April 29, 2009

The Mason Head Start students have been busy the last few weeks with a “major” garden project. They all pitched in to sow sample rows of radish, leaf lettuce, and peas. Each student also started two peat pots; one containing cucumber and one containing zucchini seeds. During these past weeks, the class has learned the essentials of seed germination; soil, sunlight, water - and patience - while eagerly waiting for the first sign of green to appear. With continued attention to fertilization, weed eradication and moisture needs, some crops have reached maturity and the rest will reach maturity before summer vacation. The students have observed the full cycle of plant life from seed to harvest. Special Thanks to the Head Start "Grandparents."
