The Mason Lions Club met Tuesday, April 28, for its regular weekly meeting. There were 31 members and 3 visitors in attendance.
Lion Charles Pluenneke was responsible for the program and introduced John Davis who spoke about the Institute of Texas Cultures. It cam about because of Hemisfair, one of the last World's Fair. John and several others worked over time to get the Institute open in time for Hemisfair and it became such a big hit that they were asked to bring people and exhibits to Washington, D.C. for a celebration on July 4th following the opening of Hemisfair. There exhibits, at D.C. was so successful that the Texas Folklife Festival was born and continues til now. This year's Festival is June 12, 13, and 14 in San Antonio at the Institute of Texas Cultures.
The club's next meeting will be held Tuesday, May 5th, at noon at Zavala's. The program will be the monthly business meeting.
The Mason Lions Club has an ongoing program to recycle used eyeglasses to people who need them. Used eyeglasses may be given to any Lion or left in collection boxes at any of the local banks. Also, please contact any Mason Lion if you know of anyone in our community unable of afford appropriate eye care.
