James E. Grohman

James Edward Grohman, of Austin, passed away on Thursday, May 7, at the age of 64.

James was born in Bastrop, Texas, on December 14, 1944, to Clarence Grohman and Ida Goertz Grohman. He was raised in the Rockne area near Bastrop. On August 9, 1969, he married Patricia Stahl at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mason. They made their home in Austin but were members of St. Joseph Parish in Mason. For 40 years he worked as a surveyor in the Austin area.

He loved to come to Mason and spend time at the ranch, tending to his cattle. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing and golfing. Jim had a quick wit and a wonderful way with children. He loved kids and they loved him. Jim would get down to their level, playing on the floor with them.

Jim is survived by his wife Patricia “Pat” Grohman of Austin, four brothers: Leon Grohman and wife Janice, Arthur Grohman and wife Mary Ann, Claude Grohman and Alvin Grohman all of Rockne and three sisters: Ruby Gambrell and husband Darrell of Thorndale, Helen Klaus and husband John of Rockne and Nelda Vick and husband Pat of Dallas. He is also survived by the following brothers and sisters-in-law: Marvin Stahl and wife D’Ann of Mason, Charlie Stahl and wife Alexia of Georgetown, Melvin Stahl of Bastrop, Ken Stahl and wife Sarah of Mason, Shirley Ischar and husband Smokey Goodman of London, and Gladys Garner and husband Gary of Mason. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Rosary was held on Sunday, May 10 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rockne. The Funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, May 11 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mason with Father Gabriel officiating. Interment followed in the Gooch Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Henry Garner, Patrick Garner, Jason Griffin, Don Kuhlmann, Chad Stone and Alan Grohman. Honorary pallbearers were Alvin Grohman, Marvin Stahl, Charlie Stahl, Melvin Stahl, Ken Stahl, Smokey Goodman and Gary Garner.
