Ronnie Schulze To Be Presented Honorary Alumni Membership at San Saba High School
Wednesday, May 13, 2009 • Posted May 13, 2009

The San Saba High School Alumni Association will hold its 5th Annual Meeting at the High School Cafeteria on Saturday, May 16th at 10:30 a.m. The meeting will include reports from several committees as well as the election of directors and officers. The meeting will be followed by a luncheon catered by Boney and Clauds. The highlight of the annual meeting will be the presentation of an Honorary Membership to Ronnie Schulze.

Ronnie was born in Fredericksburg, Texas, on December 7, 1948. He attended High School in Mason and graduated there in 1967. Ronnie then attended college at Tarleton State University, graduating in 1971 with a BA in History. He moved to San Saba in 1974 and began his teaching career in the San Saba schools in 1977. In addition to his teaching and coaching career, Ronnie has played the drums in various bands over a span of 43 years. His family has a farm and ranch in Mason County and Ronnie also has a taxidermy business in San Saba.

What Ronnie really loves, though, is kids and coaching. And he also loves to win. As a Junior high football coach he has amassed a record of 339-178-17 over a period of 32 years. During that period he has won 13 district championships and shared in two others. Four of those teams were undefeated. As the basketball coach, his teams won 5 district championships and shared in 3 others.

Ronnie’s greatest pride and where he stands out head and shoulders above the rest is his success with the golf program. As Jeff Wick, sportswriter for the San Angelo Standard Times stated in an article on May 4, 2008, “It is a common misconception that rules stipulate the state golf tournament cannot be held without Ronnie Schulze present.”

As a high school golf coach, he has won 30 district championships in both boys and girls golf, has had 25 district runners-up, 15 regional championships, 10 regional runners-up, and has had a team finish in the top 5 at the state level 22 times. He has coached 25 district winning medalists, 21 district runners-up, 13 district third-place finishers, 8 regional winning medalists, 5 regional runners-up, and 4 regional third-place finishers. He has had 2 individuals win state as medalists, 2 finish second as medalists, and 17 other individuals finish in the top ten in the state as medalists. What Jeff Wick said seems to be so true.

Ronnie is a member of the Texas High School Coaches Association and the Texas High School Golf Coaches Association. He is the former President and Vice-President of the San Saba Golf Association and was honored by the Texas High School Coaches Association in 1996 for Outstanding Achievement in coaching golf. He is listed in Who’s Who Among Teachers in the United States.

Ronnie has been married to his wife Lesa for 38 years and has two daughters, Corrie Dyson and Mindy Cantu. He is the son of Laura Schulze and the late Clinton Schulze of Mason.
