On May 7, Lois Durst celebrated her 96th birthday with a little help from a few friends. With the closing of Mason Care Center, Lois has moved to the Brady West Care Center in Brady. Three of her friends from Mason drove over with birthday cake and gag gifts, and were joined by Betty Meyer who lives at Rochelle. From Mason were Tanya Lamoreaux, who baked the cake; Edna Earle Benton; and Johnni Rossing.
With the table decorated and cake in place, Lois was wheeled out to the beautiful verdant porch of the center to encounter a rousing rendition of “Happy Birthday to You.” Gag gifts included a stuffed frog because the group just hopped over to celebrate with her; a noise maker that makes a “moo” sound because they planned to celebrate until the cows came home; a toy flute to call the birds out of the trees; and a stuffed robin to show that the flute works. Good sport that she is, Lois laughed through it all.
A delicious Tanya Lamoreaux cake was served along with punch containing sherbet and a few cheese snacks to complete the celebration.
