Members from the Mason FFA Chapter attended the Area VII FFA Association Convention on Wednesday, May 20, 2009. The convention is held annually on the campus of Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. Mason FFA holds membership in the Hill District of Texas; one of six districts in Area VII.
The day’s activities begin with voting delegates from each school electing new Area Officers for the 2009-2010 year. Public speaking events are held for those members advancing from the district level. Mason FFA qualified in each of the four public speaking events offered in competition. The top two speakers from the Area convention advance to the State FFA Association Convention in July. The results are as follows:
Virginia Lemke – First Place Senior Prepared Public Speaking
Kambrey Hudson – First Place Soil and Water Stewardship Public Speaking
Jacob Bibb – Fifth Place Junior Prepared Public Speaking
Tabitha Zant – Seventh Place Extemporaneous Speaking
Kambrey Hudson, by placing first, was awarded a $500 scholarship. She also represented the Hill District as the 2009-2010 District Student Advisor. Voting Delegates from Mason were Shayna Myrick and Shelbie Shaw. Congratulations to each of these members for a successful year.
