Wednesday, May 27, 2009 • Posted May 27, 2009

Why do we need hunter education? Hunter education is more than just firearm safety. Hunter education produces responsible, knowledgeable, involved hunters. Ultimately, the mission of a hunter education program is to ensure the continuation of the hunting tradition. If you are looking to get certified in hunter education for some out-of-state hunting this fall or if you are wanting to get certified for the upcoming Texas hunting season, an online study plus a 1-day field course is being offered in Mason. The field course and final exam will be held at Mason Mountain Wildlife Management Area (WMA) on Saturday June 6th.

Each participant will be required to complete the TPWD online hunter education course and print out each chapter exam prior to the 1-day field course. Chapter exams must be turned in at the beginning of the June field course. The field course will start at 8:00 a.m. and will consist of a hunter skills trail, ethics presentation, live fire exercise, and a final exam. The cost is $15.00 per person. Any person wishing to attend this course must pre-register by June 3rd, 2009. There will be a limited number of participants, so please register as early as possible!! For more information or to pre-register, call Kory Perlichek at 325-347-5691.
