Grace Christian Students Attend Competition

Eleven students from Grace Christian School attended the Christian Schools Finals Competition at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma, May 17th – 23rd. This competition is an Olympics style event in which students participate in academics, drama, art, music, and athletics. Three hundred eighty-one students from schools in the United States, Central and South America worshiped together and competed for top honors.

The students did an outstanding job of representing Grace Christian School and Mason. The school placed 3rd in the overall Academics category with the following entries: 1st On-site Engineering (Jeffrey Burton, Jose Dominguez, Colt Lyons); 1st Biological Science Project (Haylee Burton, McKenna Johnson, Jeffrey Williams); 1st Physical/Engineering Science Project (Jeffrey Burton, Gabe Jennings, Chama Martin); 1st Government Challenge (Jeffrey Burton); 1st Essay Writing (Gabe Jennings); 2nd Literature Challenge (Lucchese Gordon); 2nd Bible Challenge (Lucchese Gordon); 2nd Academic Bowl (Jeffrey Burton, Jose Dominguez, Lucchese Gordon, Gabe Jennings, Colt Lyons, Chama Martin); 3rd Short Story Writing (Lucchese Gordon); 4th Geography Challenge (Jeffrey Burton); 6th Poetry Writing (McKenna Johnson).

GCS placed 5th in the Speech and Dramatic Arts competition with the following entries: 1st Puppets (Jeffrey Burton, Jose Dominguez, Colt Lyons, Chama Martin); 3rd Illustrated Storytelling (Gabe Jennings); 3rd Original Dialogue (Jose Dominguez, Colt Lyons); 4th Expressive Reading (Lucchese Gordon); 6th Original Monologue (Jeffrey Burton); 6th Published Monologue (Chama Martin); 6th Poetry Recitation (McKenna Johnson).

The Art categories included various media, photography, and clothing design and construction. GCS students placed as follows: 1st Mixed Media (Colt Lyons); 1st Banners (Haylee Burton); 3rd On-site Art (Jose Dominguez); 4th Sketching (Jose Dominguez); 4th Scenic Photography (Jose Dominguez); 4th Portrait Photography (Lucchese Gordon); 4th Clothing Construction (Lucchese Gordon); 4th Calligraphy (K.C. Coleman).

In Music, students placed in the following: 3rd Classical Solo (Lucchese Gordon); 4th Percussion Solo (Colt Lyons); 5th Piano Solo (K.C. Coleman); 6th Vocal Duet (Haylee Burton, Bailee Everett).

GCS students participated in golf, table tennis, and track in Athletics. The following placed: 1st Individual Golf (Jeffrey Williams); 2nd Team Golf (Jeffrey Burton, K.C. Coleman, Gabe Jennings, Colt Lyons, Jeffrey Williams); 2nd Long Jump (Gabe Jennings); 5th 1600 Meter Run (Jeffrey Williams); 6th 100 meter dash (Gabe Jennings); 6th 4X400 Meter Relay (Jeffrey Burton, Jose Dominguez, Gabe Jennings, Colt Lyons).

Additionally the puppet show and the mixed media entry received “show case” recognition and were presented to the entire assembly of students, sponsors, and judges.

The students were accompanied by Gay Renfroe, Fritz Landers, Ken Burton, Connie and John Coleman, Terry Johnson, and Crystal Lyons. Thanks to these sponsors, John Burges, other parents, and all who have supported GCS through donations and cookie sales these 11 students were able to develop and use their talents to the glory of God.
