Mason’s Caffey Brings Home a Medal
Wednesday, June 10, 2009 • Posted June 10, 2009

It was a long season track season for many Cowgirl track runners, due to the postponement of all UIL events. However, the two young ladies that represented Mason at the State Meet last weekend (Rebekah Caffey and Hillary Bibb) did not seem to mind. Both were able to compete against the few elite runners that were still remaining in the UIL competition.

In the heat of the day, both runners competed well against their respected opponents. Hillary Bibb was seated 7th in the 800m Run entering the meet and bumped up to finish 6th. It was a great opportunity for her to get to experience the environment as well as the level of competition. That should help give her an even greater advantage going into her senior year.

Rebekah Caffey was seated 5th in the 100m Dash and 7th in the 200m Dash. She as well came out with some great results. Finishing 5th in the 200m Dash was a great accomplishment. Yet, the highlight of the meet for Mason was her third place finish in the 100m Dash. Rebekah bumped local favorite, Bonnie Richardson, out of the top three to earn her first UIL State Medal.

It has been three years since the Mason mile relays competed at the UIL State Track Meet, eight since an individual has qualified. What an accomplishment to know that you are one of the fastest competitors in the state at your respective events. It is achievements like these that really prove how hard work really does pay off.

I want to thank these young ladies, as well as the other 20+ individuals that participated in the 2009 track season, for making this such a fun and memorable last season for me!
