School Board Hires New Junior High Principal

During the June 15 meeting of the Mason I.S.D. board of trustees, a new principal was hired for Mason Junior High to replace Pam Kruse. Mrs. Kruse has been hired by the board to replace Casey Callahan as the principal for Mason High School.

Clint Askins, who most recently was the Pre K through 5th grade principal in Veribest, was selected as the new Jr. High principal. Mr. Askins has also served in administrative capacities in Junction and Rocksprings.

His spouse, Heather Askins, was selected as a Pre-K teacher at Mason Elementary school. She has taught in Veribest, San Angelo, Junction, Rocksprings, Robert Lee and Lake Worth. Both of the Askins graduated from Tarleton State University.

The Board also selected Mason High School graduate Adam Estes as the new Assistant Band Director. Adam returns to Mason after having taught in South Carolina and Georgia for six years. He also has an extensive resume of performance during that same period.

The Board discussed possible salary schedules for the upcoming school year. Superintendent Matt Underwood explained to the Board that many of their decisions would hinge upon the State of Texas use of stimulus funds for teacher pay raises. The board voted to approved a 3% raise for administrative and clerical; a 2% raise for cafeteria; and a 3% + raise for teachers.

The new regular meeting of the board will be July 20, 6:00 p.m., in the Junior High Library.
