Kristen Miller Graduates from NYU

Kristen Miller received a Master of Music Degree in Music Theatre/Vocal Performance with a GPA of 3.975 from New York University’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development in NYC. Graduation dates were May 11, 2009, at Radio City Music Hall for the NYU Steinhardt School and May 13, 2009, at Yankee Stadium for the 177th All-University Commencement Exercises.

On Saturday May 9, 2009, Kristen presented her Graduate Music Theatre Recital in partial fulfillment of requirements for the degree of the Master of Music Program at NYU Pless Hall Black Box Theatre with accompanist/pianist Jason Burrow. Works were by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Schwartz, Gabriel Faure, and a lyricist study of Tom Jones of the Jones and Harvey Schmidt team with Mr. Jones attending her recital ! Other works were by Jerry Herman, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, and a character study of Venus from “One Touch of Venus” by Kurt Weill and Ogden Nash.

NYU Steinhardt’s Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions was established in 1925. Since that time, Steinhardt Music and Performing Arts Professions has functioned as NYU’s “school” of music and developed into a major research and practice center in music technology, music business, music composition, film scoring, music performance practices, performing arts therapies, and the performing arts-in-education (music, dance, and drama). Faculty are international performing and recording artists and others sit on leading journal editorial boards and publish some of the most significant performing arts research on the scene today offering an unparalleled environment for artistic, professional, and scholarly challenge and growth.

Kristen earned a Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Education with a Religion Minor from Baylor University, Waco, Texas in 2007. While at NYU, Kristen studied in the voice studio of Professor Christine Reimer and interned at The York Theatre.

Her NYU credits include: Candide, King David, Brahms’ Neue Liebeslieder (Tisch Second Avenue Dance Company); Music Theatre: The Classics on Broadway in (Florence, Italy) and The Brady Bunch Experience (The Player’s Club, NYC).

Attending the graduation ceremonies and recital were parents, Brenda and John Miller of Kerrville and sister, Natalie Wiggins of Houston. Kristen is the granddaughter of Frances Priess of Mason.
