Grab your boots, pack your cameras, and head out for one of the biggest weekends in TEXAS! It’s Mason’s 9th Annual Great American Jackass Race that is the “Main Event” during the 45th Annual Roundup Weekend – July 10th & 11th.
The Mason County Chamber of Commerce will host a town square parade beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 11th. The parade will feature over fifty participants including dazzling floats, antique cars, fire trucks, horses, soldiers, and antique tractors. IMMEDIATELY following the parade is the Great American Jackass Race, also produced by the Mason Chamber of Commerce. The race begins and ends on the north side of Mason’s courthouse square where fans cheer on the winning burro. Anyone with a burro is invited to participate in the race where the winner will receive a cash prize of $750! The entry fee is $25 and the jackass must be a genuine burro – NO hybrids, mules or mammoth jacks are allowed in the race. Participants may ride, lead, or drive their burro via cart for the one lap race around the square. Other cash prizes include 2nd Place and the “Best Dressed” burro. So, bring your family and friends to Mason to see who has the Greatest Jackass in America!
The Roundup Weekend also includes a 4D-Barrel Race on Friday, July 10th starting at 7:00pm at the Ft. Mason City Park Rodeo Arena. The events continue on Saturday, July 11th with an arts & crafts show, live music, and great food on the courthouse lawn. There will also be a “Billy (goat) Bingo” contest, an Antique Car Show and an Antique Tractor Exhibition. Activities continue Saturday night with a Rodeo and Dance at the Ft. Mason City Park. The Rodeo is produced this year by Lester Meier Rodeo Company and the Dance features singer-songwriter, Jody Nix, while scootin’ a boot under the stars. Pre-sale tickets are available now for both the Rodeo and Dance and the entire family is welcome. Come out and enjoy the fun…Mason, Texas Style!
