AROUND THE SQUARE
Wednesday, July 8, 2009 • Posted July 8, 2009

Junk store.

Thrift shop.

Antiques.

Mason’s got a plethora of places.

Country Collectibles.

Or Collectables.

Depends on which direction you approach it from:

Leaving the square going north.

Or coming from the north towards the square.

Then there’s The Little Red Shack.

That’s on the highway headed south.

Texas Resale does business on the highway going north.

So does Mason Resale Barn.

And right next door is the Hill Top Emporium & Trading Post.

Back near the square is Lone Star Antiques.

And next to it is The Community Thrift Shop.

Sam’s Antiques is on one corner of the square.

Underwood Antiques is on another corner of the square.

And that pretty much sums up places to score those priceless finds.

Plus nearly every single weekend there’s at least one garage sale.

Or yard sale.

Or estate sale.

Or rummage sale.

Or fundraising sale.

There’s just no tellin.’

One man’s meat is another man’s poison.

And one person’s trash is another’s treasure.

Then there’s ads for who-knows-what in the Mason County News.

For Sale—

“Hay.

Trailer flooring.

Grandfather clock.

Computer.

Angus bull.

Chuckwagon.

Granite.

Concrete.

Flat Screen TV.

Windmill.

House to be moved.”

Or the flip side, Wanted—

“Junk autos.

Old lumber.

Slightly used Barbie dolls.

Guns.

House to be moved.”

Or this Mason classic—

“Burro Needing Team Mate To Run With Him For The Great American

Jackass Race.”

Well, it is Round-Up weekend.

May the best jackass win.

That’s Mason.

Renee Walker is a poet, author, and real estate broker on the square.
