Rescued Pup Looking for New Home
Wednesday, July 8, 2009 • Posted July 8, 2009

This puppy is a beautiful black lab who really needs a home. She is around four months old, and she has all of her shots.

I rescued she, her sister and her mother (who is a very sweet yellow lab) from under an old house. She barked at people because she was protecting her puppies. She must have been dumped or lost because I saw her in my neighborhood for months trying to find food in the trash.

When I saw her with five puppies I knew something had to be done because they had no food or water and had to fend for themselves and would grow up to be wild dogs running in the street. I already had four dogs and didn’t need anymore, because it's already hard enough to pay vet bills and feed my own.

My daughter, Ashley, took one. I am keeping the mom because I gained her trust by feeding her bacon and leftovers. At first she would bark at me and I was afraid she might bite me, but I had patience and took my time until she cautiously ate from my hand. When I would leave she would look at me so sad. I was just trying to keep her fed, hoping someone would take the puppies.

It was a job for my family and I to get the puppies away from mom to catch them, so we finally trapped one. Then, later, the mom just got in the jeep with her second puppy. When I put her in my yard, she ran in circles around me, she was so HAPPY to have a home.

I knew then that after all of those months of watching her that I had done the right thing. I am taking her to the SPCA in Fredericksburg where they spay and neuter for no charge to have her fixed. I think alot of people can’t afford the cost and do not know about this place.

If you're interested in giving a home to the puppy, my home phone is (325) 347-6694; Lawrie's cell is 347-4265; Pete's cell is 347-4002. Please consider taking a rescue puppy instead of going out and buying one. There are so many who need homes.
