Tina Carter, of Mason, passed away on Saturday, August 8, 2009, at MD Anderson Hospital in Houston at the age of 56.

Tina was born October 29, 1952 in Eunice, New Mexico, to Ernest and Olive Jones. The family lived in various towns across Texas and Tina graduated from Bridge City High School in 1971. On May 5, 1977, she married Willie Carter and they made Mason their home. Tina and Willie were blessed with two children, Brandi and Jared.

Through the years, Tina was a member of the Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary, the First Baptist Church, Band Boosters, and multiple other organizations that benefit the community. In the past, she provided a day care service in her home, substituted at Mason High School, and was the secretary at the First Baptist Church for seventeen years. She was always willing to help others and it would be hard to find a lady who had a heart as loving as hers. Tina’s hobbies included quilting, sewing, working in her garden, and spending time with her family.

Throughout her battle with cancer, chemotherapy, radiation and the ensuing blood clot issues, Tina maintained a positive attitude and was convinced that the Lord had more planned for her. Even as she suffered, she felt a calling to help others going through an illness like hers. A dedicated Christian, Tina enjoyed sharing her faith with others. She was the type of person who always gave of herself, gladly “adopting” many children and grandchildren and considering them all “part of the family.” She was “Mom” and “Grammie” to many people besides her biological family.

Tina is survived by her husband of 32 years, Willie Carter of Mason; her son, Jared Carter and wife Marissa of Mason; her daughter, Brandi Nobles and husband Cade of Midland; two brothers, Mike Jones and wife Jeana of Liberty Hill and Timothy Jones and wife Tonie of Chugiak, Alaska; and one sister, Karen Zimmerman and husband Bill of Willow City. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Mackenzie, Madison and Caeleb Carter, and Cy and Grant Nobles. She is also survived by her extended family and her many dear friends and “adopted” family members.

Funeral services for Tina Carter will be held on Wednesday, August 12, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Mason with Pastor David Collett officiating. Burial will follow at Gooch Cemetery. Jared Carter, Cade Nobles, Mike Jones, Timothy Jones, Bill Zimmerman, Donovan Vierus and Rodney Persall will serve as pallbearers, with Larry Cavaness, Gary Wayne Comer, David Scarth, Raymond Brandenberger and Leslie Melgham serving as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation with the family was on Tuesday, August 11, 2009, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Mason Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.masonfuneralhome.net.

Memorials for Tina Carter can be made to Mason County Fire Department and EMS or the Mason County Cancer Benefit. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Mason Funeral Home.
