The Mason Lions Club met Tuesday, August 18th, for its regular weekly luncheon meeting. There were 35 members and 3 visitors in attendance.
Lion Tom Canfield was responsible for the program and introduced Elaine Granninger who spoke about Air Evac Lifeteam. Elaine said Air Evac, a Helicopter Ambulance Service, is in 14 states with helicoopters at 89 bases and has 800,000 members. She said the patient flight, drugs and all equipment used is covered by the Air Evac Lifeteam. They accept what ever coverage the patients insurance or medi-care pays and no other charges are the patients responsability. Elaine said a flight from Mason to Austin can cost from 8,000 to 12,000 dollars with some going as high as $20,000 for 1 flight. The cost to be a member of Air Evac is as low as $55.00 for a 1 member household. The club's next meeting will be held Tuesday, Aug. 25th, at noon at Zavala's. The program chairman will be Michael Cope.
The Mason Lions Club has an ongoing program to recycle used eyeglasses to people who need them. Used eyeglasses may be given to any Lion or left in collection boxes at any of the local banks. Also, please contact any Mason Lion if you know of anyone in our community unable to afford appropriate eye care.
