Eight members of the Mason FFA Chapter attended the 2009 Texas FFA Convention. The convention is held annually during the summer, giving each chapter an opportunity to be represented on the state level. This year’s event was held in Dallas, Texas during the month of July.
According to Lance Rasch, Agriculture Science Teacher, “the Texas FFA Convention provides a great learning experience for FFA members. Not only do members have the opportunity to sign in as a voting delegate during the sessions, but are also provided with excellent workshops promoting leadership, citizenship, and community service. These are character traits essential for producing our future leaders in agriculture.”
The Convention also recognizes FFA members for their achievements during the year. Three Mason students received their Lone Star Farmer Degree and were recognized during one of the sessions. Those receiving the degree were Shayna Myrick, Shelbie Shaw, and Casey Kruse.
The State Public Speaking contest is also held with the top twenty speakers in each division from the entire state competing for top honors. This year, Mason placed two speakers in the finals. Virginia Lemke placed sixth at state in the Senior Prepared Public Speaking. Kambrey Hudson competed in the State Soil Stewardship Prepared Public Speaking and placed tenth. Also attending the convention as voting delegates were Jacob Bibb, Bodie Adams, and Vance Lehmberg.
Congratulations to these Mason FFA members for their achievements. They are to be commended for their hard work and dedication to their success. For more information on FFA opportunities contact Jarrod Usener or Lance Rasch at 325-347-1122.
