New Traffic Safety Laws

Just wanted to make you all aware of the new laws that went into effect on September 1, 2009. Here is a quick summary:

Kids under 8 have to be belted into a Booster Seat, until they are 4 feet, 9 inches in height. This will help their seatbelts fit them properly. There are more expensive boosters out there, but a $15 one that just fits under your child’s behind will work great too. Let me know if you need help with this, carseats and child passenger safety is one of my interests, especially since I have a little one now!

Everyone has to be buckled in a seatbelt, even if they are in the back seat.

People driving or riding in 15 passenger vans now are required to wear their seatbelts.

If you drive a motorcycle, you cannot transport someone under 5 unless they are riding in a side car.

If you talk on your cell phone in a school zone, you must be stopped or use a hands-free device.

Penalties are increased for driving while intoxicated with a child passenger.

Happy driving!
