Angelo Ministry Offers SMU Fans a Treat

Calling all golfers and SMU graduates to the House of Faith annual benefit golf tournament with the opportunity to meet and spend time with one of football’s living legends – Jerry LeVias.

Golf tournament is Saturday, September 12, Quicksand Golf Course in San Angelo, 8:30 a.m. tee time. $80 per person for green fee, cart, lunch, mulligans and raffle tickets. Tournament will be flighted in 3 divisions.

Special Tournament Guest, Jerry LeVias, will be auctioned to play with two foursomes (9 holes each) in the tournament. The auction is Friday, Sept. 11, 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. reception at House of Faith, 321 Montecito in San Angelo. LeVias is a former SMU All American, played with the Houston Oilers and San Diego Chargers, SMU Hall of Fame, National College Football Hall of Fame, Texas Sports Hall of Fame, SMU Distinguished Alumni, All American Alumni Award of the Football Writers Assoc. of America, featured in the HBO documentary “Breaking the Huddle” and in the award winning FOX sports documentary, “A Marked Man”.

LeVias was a pioneer in helping to integrate football in the South during the American Civil Rights era and holds a special place in the history of college athletics. When he signed with SMU in 1965, he was the first African American athlete to scholarship into the Southwest Conference and led SMU to their first Cotton Bowl appearance in almost 20 years with electrifying running skills.

In addition to playing in the House of Faith golf tournament, Mr. LeVias is speaking at the House of Faith 15th Anniversary benefit dinner, Saturday, September 12, 7:00 p.m, at First Baptist Church San Angelo., with silent auction beginning at 6:00 p.m., dinner by Chef Henry Wiens. Emcee for the evening is San Angelo Chamber of Commerce president Phil Neighbors. Frank Stringer of Stringer Oil and Gas, and fellow SMU football team member, will introduce Jerry LeVias at the dinner. Tickets for the dinner are $25 per person.

All events benefit House of Faith, a non-profit street ministry based in San Angelo, TX that works with more than 1200 at-risk children and youth each week.
