Cristi Lee Slocum, a graduate of Mason High School, has been awarded a scholarship by the Texas Interscholastic League Foundation.

Slocum received the Spalding Scholarship in the amount of $1,000, payable for the first year of higher education. The Spalding Sports award was awarded to 37 students who have participated in the University Interscholastic League Academic State Meet and who have compiled an outstanding record of academic and extracurricular achievement.

This year the TILF awarded 353 new awards and will renew approximately 252 awards for a total of more than 605 scholarships for 2009-10, with value of over $1 million. Recipients may attend any approved college or university in Texas.

Slocum competed in literary criticism at the 2009 UIL Academic State Meet. She also participated in UIL ready writing, one-act play, solo and ensemble, tennis, cross country and track and field throughout her high school career. She was an active member of National Honor Society and student council.

Slocum plans to attend Texas Christian University and major in art history.
