Girl Scout Gold Award Presented to Granddaughter of Local Couple
Wednesday, September 16, 2009 • Posted September 16, 2009

Meagan Brown, 18, daughter of David and Janna Brown of Austin and granddaughter of Frank and Margaret Brown of Hilda, recently earned the Girl Scouts Gold Award, the highest level of recognition in the Girls Scouts of America. Only 5.4% of girls in grades 10-12 last year earned this recognition.

Meagan designed and sewed a collection of children’s tote bags for patients at Dell Children’s Hospital and stocked the bags with items to keep the children busy and comfortable during their stays. Through Girl Scout cookie sales and individual jobs, Meagan earned money to purchase sewing materials, coloring and activity books, crayons, decks of card games, stuffed animals, and her favorite children’s book Goodnight Moon, to include in each bag.

Meagan, a 2009 graduate of Westlake High School, is currently a Freshman at Texas A&M University and a pledge to Kappa Delta sorority.
