Mason Youth Competing in Colgate Showdown
Wednesday, September 23, 2009 • Posted September 23, 2009

Shelby Comey, 11 year old Mason Jr. High student, won the Colgate Country Showdown in Fredericksburg on August 20th. She is now moving on for a chance to win $100,000 and to compete at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN.

This weekend, she competes at Bayfest in Corpus Christi, then she moves on to the Regional Finals, and finally on to the nationally televised finals in Nashville. If she wins first place this weekend in Corpus, she could win $1,000.

During the Fredericksburg competition in August, she went up against nine others and was the youngest performer (the next youngest was 16 years old). The competition ranged in age from 11 to 45.

She will be competing against seven others this weekend, where the next youngest is 19 years old. She is going up against everyone who won their local shows in east Texas, so it promises to be an exciting event.

Shelby has also been asked to sing on a live television show in Nashville, featuring entertainers from age 8 to 18. She will probably go with her family sometime in February.
