JV Loses Close Game at Goldthwaite
Wednesday, September 23, 2009 • Posted September 23, 2009

The JV Punchers traveled to Goldthwaite last Thursday night to take on the Eagles in what turned into a very exciting game despite a significant delay in the start of the game. The Punchers battled hard but could not hold off a strong Eagle rally that ended with a 14-8 Puncher loss.

The Punchers took the lead in the first quarter on a short Rio Schmidt touchdown run set up after a 50 yard scamper by Austin Trip a few plays previous. The two point conversion pass from Winston Trip to Andy Duarte made the score 8 – 0 in favor of the Punchers. The game would remain at this deadlock for the rest of the first half and into the 3rd quarter with each defense rising to the occasion to force punting situations. The Eagles where able to get on the board in the 3rd quarter after a long pass completion set up a quarterback sneak for a touchdown. The Eagles added a two point conversion that tied the score at 8 – 8. The 4th quarter continued with physical play from both sides producing exciting action on the field, but strong defensive efforts resulted in few points. The Eagles eventually busted a long touchdown run in the middle of the quarter, but were denied on the conversion to take a 14 – 8 lead. The Punchers had two more chances to tie or win the game with a score, but were unable to penetrate the talented Eagle defense and the game ended in a 14 – 8 Puncher loss.

The Punchers have been working hard to progress in their execution and will be anxious to take on the Harper Longhorns Thursday night in Harper. The JV game will follow the 7th grade Puncher game that begins at 5:00. We hope to see many of the Puncher faithful there to support the team.
