The Mason Lions Club met Tuesday, September 22nd, for its regular weekly luncheon meeting. There were 38 members and 2 visitors in attendance. Among the visitors were 2 Mason High School Seniors, Virginia Lemke and Jaci Draper.
Lion Nolan Donop was responsible for the program and he spoke about his time in service during World War II. Nolan showed a video about his division, the 34th Infantry or "Red Bull" Division as it was known. This division had its start in 1860 under the order of President Abraham Lincoln. This division has been a part of nearly every battle the United States has fought since its inception. Nolan's program was very interesting and we should all be proud of the young men and women that serve our country in the armed forces.
The 5K-10K Run/Walk will be held Oct. 3rd. Everyone is encouraged to get out and participate in this event. The Lions Club uses all proceeds form this event to help out local charities and organizations.
The club's next meeting will be held Tuesday, September 29th, at noon at Zavala's. The program chairman will be Brent Drennan.
The Mason Lions Club has an ongoing program to recycle used eyeglasses to people who need them. Used eyeglasses may be given to any Lion or left in collection boxes at any of the local banks. Also, please contact any Mason Lion if you know of anyone in our community unable to afford appropriate eye care.
