Wednesday, September 30, 2009 • Posted September 30, 2009

Plans are going well for Johnny and Carla Castillo's benefit to be held on Saturday, October 3rd, at Club Victoria in Menard. There has been a good response from friends and family.

Donations for briskets, covered dishes and cakes are still being accepted. To donate a brisket, please call Cary Rambo at 456-8747, to donate a covered dish, call Yolanda Florez at 456-6838 and to donate a cake, call Vicki Hill at 396-3333.

A special account has been set up for Carla and Johnny at the Menard National Bank for money donations.

The Tx Hold'em Poker tournament only has a few spots remaining. Please call Virginia Lenox at 456-0695 to register. Mark Gonzales will be registering washer pitching teams on Saturday morning of the benefit.

The Bar-B-Que lunch featuring local cooking talent will begin at noon. The Tx Hold'em tournament and auction will follow the lunch, while the washer pitching and cake walk will begin before lunch. The festivities will close with a dance featuring the Song Dogs. The dance and bar-b-que lunch will be donation only.

"Menard fights for Carla and Johnny" t-shirts will also be for sale the day of the benefit. There is a limited amount so get there early before they're all gone.

All proceeds benefit the medical expense fund for Carla and Johnny Castillo, Jr. who were both diagnosed with cancer one week apart. Carla has begun her treatments, and Johnny is currently on medication preparing to begin his treatments.

Cash donations are appreciated and accepted through a special account at Menard National Bank.
