8th Punchers vs Menard
Wednesday, September 30, 2009 • Posted September 30, 2009

Wow, hold on to your hat, the Punchers came to play ball this past Thursday evening against the visiting Yellow-Jackets from Menard. The Punchers didn’t waste any time, because after a good return into Yellow-Jacket territory on the opening kick-off, Raul Silguero scored on a trap play from the Jacket 22 yard-line, then QB Cody Wood hooked up on the throw-back to Leret Hemphill for a nice point after. When the Jackets received the next kick-off, they found themselves swarmed by a host of Puncher defenders, including, Emilio Palacio, Drigo Martinez, Jason Berreles, and Hector Medina. When the Jackets turned over the ball, Silguero scored again from the Jacket 38 yard-line, then Wood connected again with Hemphill on the point after putting the Punchers out front 16-0.

Things didn’t get any better for the Jackets in the second period. A poor snap on the punt attempt turned the ball over again to the Punchers. Offensive linemen went to work for their running backs. These linemen included, Ethan McKinney, Cody Terry, Nick Dyer, and wide receivers, Coby Velez, Jeffrey Williams, Michael Hanscheck, and Price Ruffin. Cody Wood scored on the bootleg from the Jacket 26 yard-line. After another three and out, Silguero scored again before half on a nice 42 yard run putting the Punchers out front 30-0.

The Jackets found themselves back on their heels for the remaining minutes of the game. Puncher defensive players did a great job of not allowing the Jackets to move the ball at all. Stand-outs for the Punchers included, Logan Taylor, Nathan Hernandez, Damian Del Toro, Gabe Lingle, Cody Terry, and J.T. Danz. Offensively, Wood scored again from the Jacket 31 yard-line. Jason Berreles scored from the four yard-line on the next possession, and then again early in the 4th period, making the score 42-0. Berreles would finish out the scoring on a 65 yard run followed by Wood’s QB sneak. This made the final score 50-0.

Great game for the Punchers. Everyone contributed to the win. Next week the 8th Grade will travel to Eldorado for a 5:00 game.
