The JV Punchers traveled to Eldorado Thursday night to take on the Eagles in what turned out to be a game shortened by storms and frequent lightning in the area. The game was called at the half with the Punchers leading 21 – 0 and controlling much of the action on the field.
The Punchers started more slowly in this game than in those previous, but soon hit their stride thanks to great, hard-hitting defensive play that repeatedly made the Eagles struggle to gain positive yardage. The offense soon began to rack up the yardage behind the rushing of Rio Schmidt and Clay Walker as the offensive line of Kolby Yonker, Brandon Gomez, Korey Zavala, Brodey Taylor, Michael Williams, Briggs Jones, and Bodie Adams cleared huge lanes for the runners. Rio Schmidt eventually broke across the Eagle goal line two times in the first half, and an Austin Trip to Bodie Adams pass accounted for the third Puncher score a few plays after a Trip to Zen Steward connection put the Punchers inside the Eagle 10 yard line.
The Punchers hope to continue their winning ways and find someone to play this week as Christoval is without a JV team. As of press time we have yet to have anything set in stone, but are talking to several teams from around the area in an effort to play this week. We will let the boys know the details of the game as we work to secure one, and I will update the schedule on the school website for those interested in coming out to support the Punchers.
Editor's Note: Coach Josselet let the News know on Tuesday morning that they will play Glen Rose in Stephenville at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
