7th Punchers v Fredericksburg
Wednesday, October 7, 2009 • Posted October 7, 2009

The 7th Grade Punchers played host to the visiting Fredericksburg Billies this past Tuesday evening. In a, out of regular schedule game, the Punchers picked up a game with Fredericksburg because Eldorado does not have a 7th grade team. We try to pick up games like this because the alternative is our younger guys will miss out of an opportunity to play. But play they did as they handed the Billies a 38-0 loss.

In the opening period Mason scored on their opening drive behind the blocks of, Pascual Callejas, Zane Haley, and Kyle Zavala. Running backs Rylee Owen, and Miguel Castillo pushed the offense down the field, then Louis Castillo scored on a 18 yard run, then Miguel tacked on the PAT and the Punchers were out front 8-0.

The Puncher defense turned the visitors back time and time again. Defensive stand-outs were, Uli Alvarez, Sam Martinez, Wyatt Burdette, Darron DeToro, Walker Kuhlmann, and Hunter Kunc.

When the Punchers got their hands on the ball again, Miguel Castillo rambled 65 yards, but the T.D. was called back due to a illegal block. The penalty only slowed down the inevideable. Louis scored five plays later and Miguel tacked on the PAT, Punchers out in front 16-0. In the second period the Billies were having their problems as the Punchers did a good job on defense. Samuel Martinez recovered a fumble on the Billies 21 yard-line then Louis Castillo took it in for the score on a bootleg play, the PAT failed but the Punchers lead 22-0.

Before half-time the Billies went to the air but the Puncher secondary went to work as Wyatt Burdette picked off a pass and set up the next Puncher score lead by Louis Castillo, then Castillo found full-back Rylee Owen in the endzone for the PAT leaving the score at half-time 30-0.

The Punchers scored one more time in the game, mid-way through the third period as Miguel Castillo took it up the middle of the line, followed by a Rylee Owen point after finishing out the scoring for the game, 38-0.

Our offensive line really did a good job of opening up avenues for our backs. Our defensive front shut the visitors completely down. We had several guys in the third and fourth quarter that did a lot of good things, namely, James Perlichek, Charles Martinez, Josh Medina, Jack Graves,Michael Josques, Steven Marquecho, Hasanai Chanriang, Kyle Zavala, and Ryan Wartenbach. Next week the Punchers will combine with the 8th Grade to take on the visiting boys from Christoval.
