Popular central Texas author, Susan Wittig Albert will be a guest of the Friends of the Library in an Author Visit to be held on Sunday, November 15th. The event will be held in the Stribling Room of Mason County’s M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library beginning at 2 p.m.
The author will present a program entitled “A Writer’s Life in the Texas Hill Country” featuring her non-fiction narrative Together, Alone: A Memoir of Marriage and Place which describes her experiences of place, marriage and separateness while creating a home in the Texas Hill Country with her husband and writing partner, Bill Albert.
This prolific author is well known for her China Bayles Herbal Mysteries, a series of eighteen books based on a fictional sleuth living in Central Texas. Each book has a tie-in to an herb as the title character leaves behind a lucrative criminal law practice in Houston to become the owner of an herb shop in a fictional town midway between Austin and San Antonio. Local readers have long delighted in recognizing the locales as described in Ms. China’s adventures and her ongoing exploits.
Additionally, Ms. Albert has created the first six volumes in the series The Cottage Tales of Beatrix Potter. This is a mystery series for all age readers featuring Beatrix Potter, much loved author and illustrator, joining Potter’s adventures as she transitions from life in London to the English countryside in the early 1900’s. Two more volumes are promised to complete this wonderful series.
Another series by this author, co-written with her husband Bill Albert, is a dozen volumes in the “Robin Page Victorian-Edwardian Mysteries” featuring a sleuthing duo in historical fiction settings of the 1890’s through the early 1900’s. The writing duo incorporates many historical figures into the novels, making for even more interesting reading!
The upcoming Mason event featuring Ms. Albert will include a book signing, with a selection of her books available for purchase. The proceeds of these sales will benefit a favorite group of the author’s, The Story Circle Network, a non-profit organization founded by Ms. Albert. This group is dedicated to helping women share the stories of their lives, while raising public awareness of the importance of women’s personal histories. There will be further information at the Mason event or readers are invited to visit the Story Circle Network website at www.storycircle.org
The Friends of the Library are delighted to bring this outstanding author to Mason and extend an invite to everyone in the community to attend. Refreshments will be served and door prizes will be awarded. Mark your calendars for Sunday, November 15th at 2 p.m. and we’ll see you at the Library!
