Mason I.S.D. School Board Report

The following are some highlights from this evening’s board meeting.

The Campus and District Improvement Plans were approved as presented. Matt Underwood highlighted some changes to this year’s plan that included; CSCOPE, Parental GED Prep through ACE Program, campus visitation for best practices research, technology grants, gifted and talented curriculum changes and Voice Over IP.

FIRST Public Hearing – The district’s Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas was reviewed. The district scored in the Superior Achievement range.

Nominees were named to the Mason County Appraisal District Board of Directors. Pat Reardon, Del Roy Reichenau and Julia Gonzales were nominated. All three members currently serve on the Board.

Superintendent’s Report

A. PBMAS – The district’s Performance Based Monitoring Analysis System was reviewed. The district currently has a score of three in regards to the number of ELL students taking the TAKS test. A majority of the district’s population are recent immigrants and a three year window is provided the district before a recent immigrant is required to take the state assessments.

B. Internet Update – Options regarding upgrading the district’s internet capacity were reviewed. The earlier proposed tower option was presented as the least preferable option.

C. Plans for the district’s Life Skill portable building was shared with the board.

D. An update regarding the T3 technology grant was presented. Issues regarding the compatibility of Apple computers with the district’s current infrastructure was discussed.

A resolution supporting an alternate route to the LCRA’s proposed CREZ transmission line was passed by the board.

After much discussion the district’s operating procedures were amended to give all board members the option to vote versus a mandated responsibility to vote on all issues that do not include a conflict of interest.

Matt Underwood, Teri Price and Whitney Bownds were given accessible provisions to the district’s TexPool investments.

The date for the next regularly scheduled board meeting was changed to Monday, November 30th.
