The Mason Lions Club met Tuesday, October 13th, for its regular weekly luncheon meeting. There were 32 members and 3 visitors in attendance. Among the visitors were 2 Mason High School Seniors, Michael Vargas and Joaquin Mejia.
Lion Chris Dyer was responsible for the program and introduced Marshall Twombly of San Angelo, the past District Governor Lions Youth Programs. Mr. Twombly told about the 3 programs, in which the district would participate. These are the Peace Poster Contest, the Diabetes Essay Contest and the Volunteer Service Award. These programs involve high school age students and reward them with cash prizes for district and state winners and runner-ups. The Mason Lions Club will probably sponsor two of the three-contests, more about this later. Mr. Twombly took approximately 150 pair of used eyeglasses that had been collected by the club.
The club's next meeting will be held Tuesday, October 20th, at noon at Zavala's. The program chairman will be Ron Freytag..
The Mason Lions Club has an ongoing program to recycle used eyeglasses to people who need them. Used eyeglasses may be given to any Lion or left in collection boxes at any of the local banks. Also, please contact any Mason Lion if you know of anyone in our community unable to afford appropriate eye care.
