The JV Punchers continued to rack up the mileage as they hit the road yet again, this time traveling to Baird last Thursday night to take on the Albany Lions. It was an exciting, hard-hitting affair which was won by the Punchers, 18 – 8.
The Puncher defense once again set the tone for the squad early in the game, shutting down the Albany rushing attack. The Puncher offense found the end zone quickly in this game also, capping a physical touchdown drive with an Austin Trip to Bodie Adams touchdown pass that pushed the Puncher lead to 8 – 0 after the two point conversion.
The Lions would have difficulty moving the ball all night against a swarming Puncher defense that provided the Puncher faithful with plenty of opportunities for applause throughout the game. The Puncher offense continued slugging away at the Lion defense, this time with Rio Schmidt adding three points to the board with a 36 yard field goal to increase the lead to 11 – 0. The Punchers would push across another score to start the second half as Schmidt crossed the goal line and added the PAT to make the score 18 – 0 in favor of the Punchers. The two teams would trade punts the rest of the game, until the Lions eventually found the end zone late in the 4th quarter.
This week the Punchers will take on the Center Point Pirates in a rare home appearance for the club. We hope to see many of the Puncher faithful at the Puncher dome to witness the progress these young men have made over the few weeks since our last home game. We look forward to seeing you there.
