Lorena Huffman Poynor

Lorena Poynor, age 102, of Mason, Texas passed away Wednesday, November 4 at Fredericksburg Nursing and Rehab in Fredericksburg, Texas.

Lorena was born March 18, 1907, in Llano County, Texas, to Joe Franklin Huffman and Ollie Huffman at their home near Field Creek. She lived out her childhood and was schooled at Field Creek.

Marriage to Thomas Clyde Poynor was consummated on October 17, 1923, at Llano, Texas. Two children were born to this marriage, W. J. “Jay” Poynor and James McCall “Jamie” Poynor. Lorena was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son and five siblings. She is survived by her son Jamie Poynor and wife Kay of Mason, a small number of nephews and nieces and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Following her marriage to Clyde she lived in Fredonia, Texas with her family until 1943 at which time they all moved to Mason. She was a loving mother who worked many long hours and made many sacrifices, along with her husband in order that her sons could attend and graduate from college.

For several years, Lorena was a co-owner and operator of a lady’s ready to wear store in Mason known as the “Smart Style Shop.” Her last employment was as a nurse’s aid at Mason Hospital and Clinic.

Visitation was from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 7, at Mason Funeral Home in Mason. A funeral service followed at 2:30 at the funeral home. Interment was in the Gooch Cemetery. It is comforting to know that our loved one is now resting in comfort and peace with our Lord.

Pallbearers were Dusty Poynor, Steve Poynor, Mike Poynor, Paul Mackey, Jim Cagle and Del Roy Reichenau. Honorary pallbearers were Dick Polk, John Garcia, Mike Monroe, Clay Lindsay, Eric Lambeth, Herbert Goff and Driscol Draper.
