(Kerrville, TX) – “Visions of Sugar Plums dancing in their heads” will become a reality for the 50 local students performing in the upcoming 5th Annual Nutcracker in the Hills on November 21st-22nd at the Cailloux Theater. This annual event presented by the Kerrville Performing Arts Society will feature the prestigious San Diego Ballet, returning after two sold-out performances by this company of 25 professional dancers during last season’s holiday presentation of Tchaikovsky’s holiday classic. The two performances will be the culmination of November 21st’s Hill Country Holiday Roundup, Holiday Lighted Parade, the Lighting of the Kerr County Courthouse, and the arrival of Santa Claus in downtown Kerrville!

The lead role, Clara, has been awarded to 13-year old Willow Houseal of Fredericksburg. Clara receives a toy nutcracker from her Uncle Drosselmeyer at a family Christmas party. Following the party, Clara’s dream takes her through the dramatic battle scene with giant rats and soldiers, where she saves her Nutcracker Prince with her successful smack on the head to the Rat King. Clara and the Prince, played by Kerrville’s Allen Southern Garcia, then venture on an enchanting journey through the snow and into the Land of the Sweets.

Fifty local students have been cast as Sugarbabes, Rats, Soldiers, Party Children, Mechanical Dolls, Snow, Garlands, Sheep, Candy Canes, Ladies in Waiting, Gingersnaps, and two advanced dancers, Madison Grumbles and Hannah Fonder, will be featured as Chinese Tea. The delightful costuming, captivating stage sets, and the magnificent choreography and dancing is sure to put you and your family in the holiday spirit.
