Marvin Lange

Marvin Charley Lange of Mason, Texas, passed away in his home on Tuesday, November 10th at the age of 98 years surrounded by family and friends.

Marvin was born January 25, 1911, at Onion Creek near Doss, Texas, in Gillespie County to Tully James and Otilla "Tillie" Fuege Lange. Marvin grew up on a farm where his father owned a store and ran the Post Office at Yates, Texas, located about 300 yards from Yates Crossing on the South side of the Llano River until the early 1930’s. He graduated from Ivy High School near London, Texas.

Marvin married Karlita Hofmann on May 12, 1937, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Mason, Texas. They continued to be active members during their lives. The couple spent 62 years in the home they built together in Koocksville. In 1938 Marvin began operating a feed store and chick hatchery in Mason. During the drought in 1952 he delivered Holsum bread to Llano, Mason, Pontotoc, Fredonia and Cherokee he continued these routes for many years. In 1969 Mr. Lange was elected Justice of the Peace for Mason County and retired in February 1976. He and Karlita enjoyed the country life of hunting, fishing, and taking care of Spanish goats, sheep, and cattle on his property near Streeter. He continued to live at home with his dog MJ and safely drive himself as needed.

The family wishes to thank Shirlene Carson for her dedicated care for almost 16 years, the Gals of Country Home Health, Shanna Price and Jerry Wright of the Senior Center for bringing joy into his life every day.

Marvin Lange is survived by his son, Aubrey and wife J. Ann Lange of San Angelo, Texas; and daughter Gretchen and husband Danny Qualls of Pleasanton. Five grandchildren and their spouses: Kyle Lange of Mertzon, Marsha and Blaine Hahn of Doss, Regina and Willie Stanley of Comfort, Regan and Tina Qualls of Pleasanton, and Mac and DeAnn Qualls of Pleasanton. Nine Great-Grandchildren, one great-great-grand child. A niece Grace Wallace and her husband Bob Carlisle, and a great nephew John Wallace both of Fredericksburg.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Karlita Hofmann Lange, brother Reuben Lange and his wife Theta.

Honorary Pallbearers: Tommy Splittgerber, Awbrey Kothmann, Gene Geistweidt, Del Roy Reichenau, Henry Carson, Don Grote, Paul Dale Stockbridge, Bob Favor, Mark Lehmberg, Delvin Bauer, Gary Zesch

Visitation for Marvin Lange was from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, November 15th at the Mason Funeral Home.

Funeral Services were held on Monday, November 16th at 10 a.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church in Mason, Texas. Graveside services and interment followed in the Gooch Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family wishes that memorials be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church or to the charity of your choice.
