To All of Mason County,Hi! I am Tammie Bouman. First of all, thank you for the opportunity you have given me to serve as “Justice of the Peace” in this fine county! I was appointed in October 2001, won the election in 2002, even though I had a very worthy opponent, then won the election, unopposed, in 2006. It has been an exciting and challenging experience! This letter is to formally announce that I will be running for re-election in the Republican Primary in the spring of 2010.For those of you who do not know me personally, I have been in Mason for 20 years. I was in banking for 18 years, the last 12 years being as branch manager in Mason (Texas Trust Savings Bank, FSB, then the name changed to Coastal Banc, ssb). I have two children, Jeremiah (23), majoring in Criminal Justice at “Texas State University”, and Skyler (20), majoring in Archaeology, also at “Texas State University”. Both enjoyed the wonderful teachers, academic and sports opportunities of our renowned Mason Independent School System. Their father, Gene Wooten, of Llano, went to be with the Lord in February of 2002. We attend the “First Baptist Church” of Mason and are active in the community through local events, Senior Citizen group activities, Mason I.S.D. activities, as well as supporting our local fire department and volunteer associations. As a state requirement for continuing education, I have attended the mandatory 40 hours of accredited courses each year while in office, along with numerous hours of optional training. These schools provide in-depth, comprehensive study regarding legal matters, ethical standards and practical applications. Plans for the future include additional specialized training for inquests, magistrating and juvenile matters. Some of the daily duties of the job include: Processing and collecting on Class C Misdemeanor Citations issued by the local Sheriff’s Office, Department of Public Safety Troopers, Parks and Wildlife Game Wardens and Texas Alcohol and Beverage Commission officers; Filing and Monitoring Truancy Cases, Juvenile Alcohol and Tobacco Cases - Handling Referrals to the Probation Department if needed; Conduct Trials for disputed Class C Misdemeanor criminal complaints; Small Claim Trials; Civil Trials, Forcible Entry and Detainer/Eviction Trials; Administrative Hearings; Examining Trials; Issue Arrest and Search Warrants, Magistrating Defendants when Incarcerated; Perform Inquests on Unattended Deaths; Perform Weddings; EtceteraIf re-elected, I plan to continue my involvement with the “Shattered Dreams” and “D.A.R.E.” programs through Mason I.S.D. and focus on educating and influencing the students in regards to good decision making. I firmly believe the “Justice of the Peace” is a civil servant to the community that she/he serves , and the she/he must perform all duties impartially and diligently, honoring the pledge we should all know, that ends with “...liberty and justice for ALL.” I do my utmost to uphold this pledge, and though many may wish I would “play favorites”, I can honestly say everyone will receive the same respect and consequences regardless of race, gender, age or last name.I would appreciate your continued support and thank you again for your confidence in me.Tammie Lee Boumanger
