During Monday night's meeting of the Mason I.S.D. trustees, action was taken to accept the departure of Matt Underwood as superintendent. As reported in last week's edition, Underwood has accepted the position of superintendent of Lago Vista I.S.D., and will begin his duties there on December 8.
The trustees went into executive session at 6:29 p.m. and discussed the matter. At 6:45, they excused Mr. Underwood from their discussion, met privately for a few minutes, then asked Pam Kruse, principal of Mason High School to join them. She left the meeting shortly before 7:00 p.m., and the board returned to open session.
Trustee Buddy Schuessler then made a motion to hire Mrs. Kruse which was seconded by trustee Helen Dockal. The vote was unanimous, with all seven trustees voting.
There was no public discussion of plans to handle the position of high school principal while Mrs. Kruse is in the role of interim superintendent. The next meeting of the board, originally scheduled for December 21, was moved to December 14 during the meeting.
