Judge Jerry Bearden Announces for Re-election
Wednesday, December 9, 2009 • Posted December 9, 2009

I would like to take a moment to inform the voters of Mason County that I will be filing for re-election for the office of Mason County Judge. It has been my privilege to serve as your County Judge for the past 7 years. During my time in office, the County has been and is as strong or stronger financially as it has ever been. The Commissioners Court has been able to avoid large increases in the tax rate and yet still has been able to provide the services needed by the people of Mason County. The County has worked hard to keep our local health clinic open and serving our citizens. With the help of various grants, our communications systems for Law Enforcement, EMS, Fire and other departments have been expanded and greatly improved. Our Senior Citizen and Meals-0n Wheels programs have seen a marked improvement in the quality of the meals provided by the County.

As your County Judge, I have worked diligently with city, state, and federal officials to obtain the best services for our County. The duties of a small county judge are very different than those of judges in more populous areas. My office is responsible for working with the Commissioners Court and all other elected officials of the county for operation of county government. This office handles Criminal Court cases involving Class A and B Misdemeanors, Civil Court, and all Probate Court begins in the County Judge’s office. I am also responsible for preparing the yearly budget and tax rate to present to the Commissioners Court for their approval. I attend Judicial and Probate schools each year to improve my knowledge of laws and regulations and have been a Fellow of the Texas Judicial Academy since 2006.

For those who may not know me, I have lived in Mason County since 1969. I taught Agricultural Science in the Mason School system and retired in 2001. I am an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and have been a member of many organizations in Mason and still continue to be involved in community activities. My wife Dreu and I are blessed to have our family living in Mason, our daughter Chel and her husband Mark Terrell, as well as our pride and joy, our grandson Hudson. I have always felt that Mason County is a special place to work and enjoy life. As your County Judge, I have worked hard to ensure that we can all enjoy a good life here in Mason and if re-elected, I will continue to work as hard as I can to keep Mason County a special place to call home.
