Bakers Sweep Pecan Show
Wednesday, December 9, 2009 • Posted December 9, 2009

A.J. and Lillie Baker swept the Llano/Burnet Pecan Show held in Burnet Tuesday, December 3. They placed first in all three categories they entered: Wichita, Cheyenne and Choctaw. They also received "Best of Show" on their Wichita variety of pecans. This is their second year to enter the pecan show.

All the first place pecans will move to the second level, the district level. From the district level, the first place pecans will be judged at the state level, at the Pecan Growers Convention, in the middle of summer. Last year the Bakers placed first at the state level with their Cheyenne pecans.

The Bakers' small, commercial pecan orchard is in Pontotoc. They sell directly to customers. They started with a small customer base and through word-of-mouth have developed an impressive customer base. Some customers use the pecans as gifts to friends and family in other countries. They sell the pecans shelled or cracked.
