It’s a beautiful Monday morning in downtown Art. The sun is bright and nothing like the 18 inches of snow they had in Baltimore. My daughter Lisa and her husband William left Baltimore before the snow and are happy to be spending Christmas in Art and San Antonio.
Lisa’s birthday is today, the 21st, and we will be spending the day shopping in Mason and Brady. Also having birthdays this week are Jeb Bibb Jr. on the 22nd, Natalie Hudson on the 23, Wanda Hitzfelder Rueffer on Christmas day and Albert Herrington on the 26th. The only anniversary I know of is for Jackie and Dorothy Johnson on the 30th. So, have a great celebration and remind everyone that you need presents for both Christmas and your birthday.
Remember the Christmas Eve Candle Light Service on the 24th at 6:00 p.m. Come and join us in Art.
There are many people needing prayers this Christmas season: Continue to pray for Andrew Kothmann, he came home from the hospital last Saturday almost over the pneumonia but having difficulty talking, Pray for healing for Wayne Jordan and Max Jordan and little Laura Jordan, for Joanne and Bob Davee because both of them were recently diagnosed with cancer, Pray for the family of Wendy Hudson after the death of her brother David. Keep praying for Anna Grace Durst, Pearl Leifeste and Etta Marie Mutschink. And pray for the safety of all the people that are traveling during this holiday period. May God bless each and every one of you.
Rev. Krause continued to preach on "Getting Ready for Christ". The Gospel scripture from Luke 1:31-45 describes the visit of Mary to Elizabeth and the lives of these faithful women. Mary has just been told by the angel Gabriel that she had found favor with God and would become pregnant with a son and she would call his name Jesus. The angel also told her that her cousin Elizabeth was also going to have a son, even in her old age, and was now six months into her pregnancy. With God, nothing is impossible (verse 37). So Mary went to visit Elizabeth and when she entered the house of Zachariah, she saluted Elizabeth and her baby leaped in her womb. Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and told Mary "Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb". Mary responded by saying "My soul doth magnify the Lord, and my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour".
Both Mary and Elizabeth, being faithful and obedient to God, accepted the gift God had given to them because they were ready to receive what God was doing in their lives. Are you ready to receive Christ in your hearts and leap for joy serving God?
Open your hearts and let Him come into your being. Thank God for Elizabeth and Mary and their obedience to God in their lives. Know that Jesus is your Lord and Saviour. Know that He came from God to save us from our sins. Know that He accomplished His mission on earth as a man and now is with God preparing a place for us to be with Him for eternity. Praise the Lord. With Him, nothing is impossible.
