The Mason Lions Club met Tuesday, Dec. 15th, for its annual Christmas Luncheon at the Richard Eckert Civic Center. There were 42 members and 22 visitors in attendance.
Lion Kendall Hemphill was responsible for the program and introduced T. J. Greaney of Austin who spoke about his program, "Kids Outdoor Zone", which helps find mentors for boys of single parent homes where there is no male role model in the young boys life. T. J. himself grew up with no male model in his life and knows first-hand all the difficulties and problems that these boys experience. This was a very inspiring program.
Lion Dane Phillips was awarded the "Lion of the Year" for all his work in the club and the Mason community.
Zavala's catered a delicious B.B.Q. pork lunch that was enjoyed by all attending.
The Club's next meeting will be held Tuesday, Jan. 5th, 2010 at noon at Zavala's. The program will be the monthly business meeting.
The Mason Lions Club has an ongoing program to recycle used eyeglasses to people who need them. Used eyeglasses may be given to any Lion or left in collection boxes at any of the local banks. Also, please contact any Mason Lion if you know of anyone in our community unable to afford appropriate eye care.
