8th Boys Pick Up Victories
Wednesday, December 23, 2009 • Posted December 23, 2009

The 8th Grade boys picked up a couple of victories in their last two outings. First the Punchers played host to the visiting Eagles of Eldorado. In this game the Eagles jumped out front in the first period outscoring the Punchers 6-9, but the home boys stepped up their defense in period two holding the Eagles to only seven points while the Punchers tacked on 16 points. Both teams struggled to score in the third period but once again the Punchers rallied in the 4th outscoring the Eagles 8-4. Final score Punchers 32, Eldorado 23.

Cody Wood and Marcuss Martinez lead in scoring, with each putting in nine points. Jason Berreles and Marcuss Martinez lead in rebounds while Bibb and Velez shared assists honors.

The following week the Punchers packed their bags and headed to Menard to take on the Yellowjacks. Menard did not have a 7th Grade team so the Puncher 8th grade added a few 7th Graders to their roster for this game.

Mason did a good job and started with an early lead of 10-2. In period two each team put up six points going into half. The Punchers tacked on 14 points in the third period while holding Menard to only 4 points then each team score 6 points in the final period. Good win for the Punchers. I really enjoy it when we have several guys scoring, rebounding, and playing good all round defense. We had ten players score and everyone contributed to the win.

Bibb, Williams, and Martinez lead in scoring, Berreles, Williams, and Wood lead in rebounds. Assist honors went to Palacio, Bibb, and Louis Castillo.

After the Christmas break the Punchers will travel to Miles for their next game. The Junior High Punchers would like to wish everyone, "Merry Christmas".
