Emily Jane McDonald and Thomas Vance Decker were united in marriage October 10, 2009, at the First United Methodist Church, Hays, Kansas. Reverends Delbert Stanton, Hays, and Michael O’Brien, Houston, TX, officiated the ceremony.
Parents of the couple are Dr. and Mrs. Thomas McDonald, Hays, Mr. and Mrs. Matt Laake, London, TX and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Decker, Katy, TX. Grandparents of the couple are Betty McDonald, Smith Center, KS, the late Myron McDonald, the late Mark and Dorothy Palmer, Peggy Decker, Bertram,TX and the late Dennis Decker, Harlan and Charlene Hight, London.
The bride’s attendants were Cheryl Pfennig, Houston, and Lahna Elliott, Andover, KS, friends of the bride.
Daniel Bjork, Austin, friend of the groom and Aaron McDonald, Houston, brother of the bride, served as the groom’s attendants and ushers.
Claire Keeten, Phillipsburg, KS and Kaitlyn McDonald, Monument, CO, cousins of the bride, were candlelighters. Kirsten McDonald, niece of the bride, and Marcus McDonald, nephew of the bride, both of Houston, were the flower girl and ring bearer, respectively. Caroline Travis, Kansas City, and Jill O’Brien, Houston, served as lectors for the ceremony. The guest book attendant was Jaime King, Hays, cousin of the bride. Gift attendants were Whitney St. Clair, Smith Center, and Stephanie Pfortmiller, Phillipsburg, cousins of the bride.
Amanda Pfenninger of Hays provided the piano and organ music, accompanied by Nathan Frye on trumpet. Vocal soloists included Whitney St. Clair, Smith Center, Dr. Lynn Fisher, Hays, and Brad Elliott, Andover.
A reception, dinner and dance honored the couple following the ceremony at the Smoky Hill Country Club, Hays. Vocalists at the reception were Drew and Sara Mann, Barnes, KS, cousins of the bride.
Emily is a graduate of Fort Hays State University in Hays, with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and Wichita State University with a Master’s degree in Physician Assistance. She is a Physician Assistant at Lifeline Family Medicine in Plainville, KS. Thomas graduated from University of North Texas with a degree in English. He plans to attend graduate school at Fort Hays State University. The couple is now at home in Hays.
